DESIGN 166: Design Foundations
Role: Industrial Designer
Duration: March ~ June 2016, 3 months
Design Process
Requirement
Design a package that contains three juice glasses with only one sheet of 16 x 32’’ (41 x 82 cm) E-flute corrugated cardboard. No fasteners (nails, screws, etc.) or glue may be used.
Brainstorming and Storyboards
In this project, I have to consider the full cycle of use for this product and package as well as the aesthetic of the juice box. I sketched my ideas down and demonstrate how the user will buy the package using storyboards.
In-Class Critiques
Throughout the in-class critiques, I was able to refine my package from the initial two different design concepts to one design concept with three different models of the juice glass package to one final model of the juice glass package. Through in-class critique, I was able to gain feedback on my storyboard scenarios and my design ideas to develop them further.
Assembly
After three in-class critiques, I was able to refine my final juice glass package. Eventually, I created the juice glass package outline using the Adobe Illustrator, cutting it using the laser cutter, and assembling it using tabs and slots to connect sections together.

Thoughts and Reflections
This project helped me to discover what my interest is. In this project, I really enjoyed sketching down all the ideas that I have, the ideas kept coming out of my head, and they never stop. This project also helped me to learn more about applying 2-d composition into a 3-d format, researching on information to help solve a problem, working with constraints to achieve the project goal, breaking down a large project into smaller steps to execute them one by one, and finally learning and exploring principles of human-centered design. This is my first time feeling exciting and enjoyable in bringing my ideas into a real product. This project helped me to start exploring the design world, and I am eager to learn more about it.
